Also, I think this Airportlink project is needed much more than the NSBT because Brisbane seems to be the only city in Australia where you have to drive through a suburban area WITH traffic lights to get to the city... So I bloody hope they hurry it up.

Really? I love big concrete freeways like the M1 and I don't mind if they slice through a few suburbs to get where they have to go. 8 lanes, it's brilliant.
I find tunnels just unpleasant to drive in and coming in from the airport is that a great way to greet Brisbane? You don't even see Brisbane!
And as we all know these 2 lanes won't suffice so down the road they'll need to expand it and it's way easier to expand a freeway. In fact I don't see how they could even expand these tunnels.
But you know, it's pointless trying to build freeways in Australia, too many nimbys.
