Thessaloniki-Istanbul European Transport Corridor-Overview
The project is concerned with the road and railway connection between Greece and Turkey and the main objective of this initiative is the mutual cooperation and exchange of information on issues related both to the infrastructure and the operation of the corridor with the aim to:
1. Achieve a coordinated and interoperable development of the infrastructures between the two sides to ensure optimum exploitation of the available resources.
2. Jointly develop initiatives for the better possible operation of the corridor (cross-border passages, routes etc)
3. Jointly present our needs and objectives to international funding organisations to achieve higher fund-raising.
The Corridor
The cross-border Transport Corridor Thessaloniki-Istanbul refers to the road, rail intermodal and in particular combined transport infrastructures, including ancillary installation such as signalling, the installations necessary for traffic management, access links, border crossing stations, service stations, freight and passenger terminals, warehouses on the route of the Corridor as defined above.
The alignment of the Corridor is defined as follows:
Road section: Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis-Kipi-Ipsala-Tekirdag-Kinali-Istanbul.
Rail section: Thessaloniki-Serres-Alexandroupolis-Pythion-Uzunkorpu-Istanbul.
