As I've said on SSC, I support just about everything on this scheme, it's just fantastic news. I do, however, wholey oppose the bridge between New Farm/Teneriffe and Bulimba. 1) It isn't needed as both communities ae linked by a lovely little (and constant) ferry service that is utilised by all in the area and adds to the charm of the area there. and 2) This is a very wide section of the river, and it would destroy the views and scenery of this area. This bridge simply is not needed, and is a waste of 80 mill. I also argue that the bridge linking New Farm with Kanaroo Point is also both grossley unwarrented and would create more visual displeasure as you can easily walk up onto the Story Bridge from both spots on both sides of the bridge, and enjoy stunning views.
Apart from that, I LOVE the idea of a tram line running from Vernon Terrace, up Brunswick, through Adelaide St, over to West End and South Bank, and back up through Adelaide and up to Bowen Hills (although I argue it needs to continue up to Albion). But the ped bridge linking Eagle St and Kangaroo Point is a good idea in theory, but again, do we require it when there is both the Story bridge on one end, and the Goodwill Bridge on the other, and a lovely uninterupted stretch of the river to enjoy from the seat of a city cat. |
