I think that a bridge would never be an eyesore if it was designed and planned properly... Just look at the story bridge, it brought life to the river when it was first built and has complemented the river ever since.

This out from the Brisbanetimes... I think I might vote for Greens they actually might build this bloody thing!

The proposed "three rings" network
Brisbane tram network should be bigger
Georgina Robinson | July 20, 2007 - 2:10PM link

The Greens want a larger tram network in Brisbane's CBD that links George Street to QUT and shares the Inner Northern Busway's route around Petrie.

The party's Lord Mayoral candidate Jo Bragg today unveiled her vision for an inner-city transport plan anchored by a three-ring light rail network and two new CityCat stops.

Trams would ring three connected areas; one around the CBD and linking up with QUT's Gardens Point campus, another ringing the Fortitude Valley precinct and the final, largest ring encasing the Petrie area and following the Inner Northern Busway route.

Two extra CityCat terminals would go in at Milton and NorthShore at Hamilton.

Ms Bragg said the Greens' tram network would cost roughly $50 million more than the Premier's estimated $250 million Smart Cities plan, although both costings were provisional.

She said in addition to the state government contribution, the Greens would reduce roads funding in the Brisbane City Council budget to fund the network.

Using the Inner Northern Busway for the Petrie section, instead of Gregory Terrace, would deliver cost savings, Ms Bragg said.

She also said expanding the network would pick up more people by stopping at key linkages around the inner-city area.

"Compared to other proposals, (ours) has three main extra loops, Petrie Valley and City Ring, with essential connections to Bulimba, Bowen Hills, Kelvin Grove and Kurilpa," she said.

"These will better connect to where workers and commerce actually are."

The Green City Links plan also includes special "safe shopping zones" with reduced speeds.
