last week, there has been a 4-day forum about the future of Inciraltı a formerly agricultural area. The municipality decided to discuss the issue with the chambers, scientists and landlords in order to take an effective decision accordingly. Such a thing could only happen in the fortress of democracy Izmir.
The two main ideas were either allowing only low rise residentials and light tourism industries or turning the area into a skyscraperzone...
Personally, i thinthe area should be a tourstic zone with thermal facilities(the area is near Balçova), culture and congress buildings, marinas and hotels.
I may accept skycraper deveopments if there will be 3 lookalike buildings at most and if the area is desgned so specially for example with an international contest like done before for 3rd İzmir(Dockland) . A development like Mavişehir -which some would like- would be catastrophic for that marvellous area.
The forum has ended ad the most interesting idea has come from Ekrem Demirtaş, whose projects and admiration to make izmir a world city i admire very much. He suggested that the area should be linked with Çiğli (Mavişehir) with a bridge. That is exactly what i want tooo.
