Rep Power: 3 | Greek Library to open in Melbourne Quote: Ethnic Greek library to open in Melbourne
Posted: December 20, 2006 at 08:47 AM EST (13:47 PM GMT)
A long-standing request by ethnic-Greeks is about to be realized. During the first trimester of 2007, the Ethnic Greek Library will open its doors at EKEME (National Center of Greek Studies and Research) following the cooperation of a plethora of organizations such as the Cultural Coalition of Melbourne and Victoria, the Society of Greek authors in Australia, AHEPA and the Aggelidios Foundation, to name a few.
The library will contain books on the Diaspora and Hellenism written by Greeks and foreigners and will include 4 book categories:
1.unpublished scientific books written and completed in Australia concerning Hellenism and Greece,
2.unpublished literary, scientific and educational works by Greek-Australians and foreigners concerning Greece and Hellenism,
3.published Greek language literary, educational and scientific books and
4.published English language literature books and works concerning Hellenism and Greece.
During a meeting held yesterday at the EKEME offices, the representatives of the organizations underlined the need to promote ethnic Greek community books in Greece and called on EKEME to assume the books' promotion through state mechanisms and literary circles in Greece and
throughout Europe.
