400,000 gift packages to be sold in 2007 for Valentine's Day Some 400,000 gift packages to be sold in 2007 for Valentine's Day, Manufacturers Association of Israel predicts; men do most of buying
Valentine's Day has arrived and it seems that romance is still in the air, and even more costly than ever.
According to cosmetics manufacturers in Israel , loving couples have spent some NIS 60 million (about $14.17 million) on cosmetics for Valentine's Day.
Most of the money was spent during the week before the holiday, registering a 5-percent increase compared to last year and a 15-percent increase compared to an average week.
Lior Levi, chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Israel's cosmetic branch, said that this year some 400,000 gift packages would be sold, containing mainly face, body and hair creams, perfumes, and spa and Dead Sea products.
The packages also include various kinds of candles, and the price of a package ranges from NIS 50 to NIS 300 ($11 to $70), similar to last year.
Levi said that most of the shoppers for Valentine's Day are men. About 65 percent of them buy cosmetics for their partners, while only 35 percent of women buy gifts for their spouses.
In 2006, the cosmetics market generated some NIS 2.5 billion (about $590 million).
