not all, El Dorado in Bogota have more passenger traffic that Maiquetia and from and to Colombia have direct flights. El Dorado is the Third in South America after Sao Paulo and Rio in passenger traffic and is the first in cargo.

Because Bogota is a interior/andean/altiplanic city so much far from any port city, so that's why the cargo is more easy and quick to use for that city.

Remember Colombia is a country with difficult mountainous highways with millions of curves and a travel of 500Kms takes 15 and more hours to get completed, so the domestic flights are preferred over travel by land. AND don't forget the violence in the highways with the "guerrilla`s" attacks, the most of people feel more secure flighting.

Maiquetìa Int'l (Caracas) attends most of South American airports serving as scale for the flights that cross the atlantic in routes to Europe (and viceversa) because is the continental Latin american airport most closest to Europe, dont forget vygotsky that 80% of the flights between Bogota and any destination in Europe does a scale in Caracas before "jumping" the atlantic. (here in Venezuela the jet fuel is much more cheapest )

So excuse me, but i still thinking that Caracas is the door entrance of south america (in comparison with Bogota).

The security here is better...in last vacation time, 20 million of people used the highways and many land transport...20 millon people.

and 80%? i don`t believe...all flights of Avianca and other airlines that flight to Europe have direct flights, without scale in Caracas...Direct flights...if you have some questions..let me and i investigating in the Transport Ministery website.
