Default Mayor till midnight

Nazareth Illit's new mayor Shimon Gafsou now holds late night meetings twice a week with citizens instead of normal workday hours. with longer working hours in factories, and so that people dont have to miss a day at work, the new mayor's late evening informal meetings where citizens can talk directly with him have become an instant hit and a new nightime attraction..

Seems like a good idea if the Mayor wants to get input from working people. Hopefully he will then work for the good of the citizens of his town. If there are good results maybe other Mayors will follow his example.

The impression I get is that the local politicians are more in touch than the national ones. do you think this is true?

with govt changing so much the local politicians (which have 5 year terms and most get elected at least 2-3 times) are much more stable. the local mayors are probably equal to local govt in bigger countries. Some have very big budgets which are bigger than the ministries. I think they are more in touch but not always, some are asleep for years on the chair..
they have a lot of weight on decisions because they are connected to the political parties and a lot of mayors are knesset mk's and ministers that have preffered to be mayors.
