| Nazareth Illit's new mayor Shimon Gafsou now holds late night meetings twice a week with citizens instead of normal workday hours. with longer working hours in factories, and so that people dont have to miss a day at work, the new mayor's late evening informal meetings where citizens can talk directly with him have become an instant hit and a new nightime attraction.. מקומי - צפון nrg - ...בוא בחצות: ראש עיריית נצרת עילית ![]() Last edited by Livni; 31st March 2009 at 08:23.. | |||||||||||

The impression I get is that the local politicians are more in touch than the national ones. do you think this is true? | ||||||||||||

| with govt changing so much the local politicians (which have 5 year terms and most get elected at least 2-3 times) are much more stable. the local mayors are probably equal to local govt in bigger countries. Some have very big budgets which are bigger than the ministries. I think they are more in touch but not always, some are asleep for years on the chair.. they have a lot of weight on decisions because they are connected to the political parties and a lot of mayors are knesset mk's and ministers that have preffered to be mayors.
