Swede throws son at Ben Gurion Airport terminal, kills himself
By Haaretz Service

A Swedish tourist jumped to his death at Ben Gurion International Airport's terminal 3 predawn Monday after throwing his young son over a safety railing first.

Commander Maurice Harush, commander of the Ben Gurion Airport police station told Army Radio "at around 3 A.M. an eyewitness spotted a man lift a boy, roughly at the age of 8, throwing him down 7 or 8 meters at the railroad tracks in the airport."

"Immediately thereafter he jumped also, suffering fatal injuries. Resuscitation efforts were administered immediately on the man, but he died almost instantaneously. The boy was taken in moderate to serious condition to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer," he said.

"The incident took place at the bottom level at the front of the terminal, right near the railroad tracks," Commander Harush told the radio.

"We have two eyewitnesses ? a taxi driver who stood next to [the father and son], didn't quite realize what was happening and didn't become involved; and a cleaning worker who was standing next to the railroad tracks. The janitor was alert ... the father and son were sprawled on the railroad tracks ... and [the cleaning worker] waved at an approaching train that came slowly into the station, managing to stop the train barely several meters before it would have hit them," Harush said.

When asked about their visit to Israel, Harush said "We've learnt they are Swedish nationals who stayed in Israel for about 10 days. They arrived in Israel on February 8. We are unsure what they did during those ten days."

"They were meant to board a flight to Vienna [on Sunday], and they probably missed their flight. They stayed at the terminal since then," he added.

Harush said police are in touch with the Swedish Embassy, and that local police in Sweden have already been sent to advise their family of the death.

The commander said also that a police investigator is questioning the boy at his bedside, and that the boy is responsive to the questions.

I hope the Israeli police will be able to track back the whole 10 days of the Swedes' stay in Israel.
Some people get a little benumbed after visiting Jerusalem, but real crazyness is extremly rare. If he missed his flight home, there was no reason to pannic as Swedish embassy would be probably helpful with securing next ticket.
Well, let's wait for result of the investigation.

Who tries to kill their own child because they missed the flight?
I'll bet that plane didn't have a pilot way before he arrived to Israel.
