| Heading north brings us into the hood know as Stuyvesant Town. It goes from 14th to 23rd Sts between 1st Ave and the East River. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was mostly farmland that was owned by Peter Stuyvesant when he was living in 1642. For much of the time, the area remained undeveloped. It wasn't until industrialization came that brough a factory known as the Gas House, but it was known for the imfamous Gas House Gang. In 1942, Robert Moses agreed with on a deal that would allow for emminent domain as long as a percentage of the complex by Met Life would be affordable and to war vetrans as a first priority. However, it brought up issues such as segregation amoung housing as well as allowing for private companies to build public housing. Peter Cooper Village was built not too long after Stuyvesant Town was and offered similar features to it as well. More recently, Met Life intents to sell the property giving residents, mainly of low and middle income, have feared that they will either have to move out or the rent will became higher as they would loose their rent stablization. Although the whole area is a complex, there are some interstion features such as the fountains. You can get here by taking the subway to 1st Ave (L). Here is what you will find in Stuyvesant Town. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
