Heading west brings us into the hood known as Clinton. It goes from 42nd to 59th Sts between 8th Ave and the Hudson River. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was pretty much a forest. In 1846, the Hudson River RR was built to allow for transportation all the way up to East Albany. In the mid 1800's, a number of Irish immigrants came to live here giving the name Hell's Kitchen. In the late 1870's, came the 9th Ave El to give transit throughout Manhattan. In 1925, the third MSG was located here for games of the NY Rangers and other events along with the NY Knickerbockers when they came in 1946. In the 1930's, the tracks for the streetcars were removed as the 9th Ave El was demolished durring the 1950's. In 1959, the area was renamed as Clinton in honor of De Witt Clinton, who had a park named after him nearby and was once a NYS Governor. In 1968, the owner of MSG decided to relocate the Knicks and Rangers to a new home where Penn Station sat causing this one to be demolished. More recently, many new immigrants came here besides the Irish due to the affordable prices, which also gave way to having the Intnl Food Fair. Many new buildings such as the Hearst Magazine Tower and TWC have made their apperances here in recent years. Clinton is known for having the Passanger Ship Terminal for cruises for places around the world and for the Circle Line Cruise for just around Manhattan. When the pier is finished being rennovated, the USS Intrepid will return there. You can get here by taking the subway to 42nd St-PABT (A, C, E), 50th St-8th Ave (C, E), and 59th St-Columbus Circle (A, B, C, D, 1). Here is what you will find in Clinton.
