| Heading east brings us into the hood known as Carnegie Hill. It goes from 86th to 96th Sts between 3rd/5th Aves. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was mostly farmland for the most part of the colonial period. In 1834, the NY & Harlem RR was built to allow for transporation all the through the island. In the 1860's, many townhouses were built for housing. In 1862, a reserviour was built over in Central Pk to provide for drinking water. In the 1870's, the 3rd Ave El was built to provide for additional transit. In 1901, Andrew Carnegie built his mansion (now the Cooper-Hewit National Design Museum) on 5th Ave and lived there until he died. In 1955, the 3rd Ave El was demolished due to being obsolete to the subway. Carnegie Hill still has a suburban feel to it with its many resturuants on the avenues. Some of its most famous museums, located on Museum Mile, include the Cooper-Hewitt Ntl Design Museum, Solomon R Guggenhiem Museum, and the Jewish Museum. You can get here by taking the subway to 86th St-Lexington Ave (4, 5, 6) and 96th St-Lexington Ave (6). Here is what you will find in Carnegie Hill. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
