| Heading northing brings us into the hood known as Inwood. It is everything between 190th St, Fairview Ave, 193rd St, Harlem River, and Hudson River. This hood is mostly residential. Originally it was home to the Wiechquaesgeck Indians until Peter Miniut made the purchase in 1626 in $24 worth in gold trinkets for the Dutch. Durring the 1600's, Jan Dyckman owned most of the area. In 1776, George Washington lead the Continental Army to an unsucessfull battle known as the Battle of Ft Washington, which had Marget Corbin, the first women to serve in the American Revolution but was wounded, against the British Army, who renamed it Ft Tryon after General William Tryon. In 1784, William Dyckman built the present day farmhouse that still stands there day after the one that got burnned down by the British durring the American Revolution. In the 1830's, the NY & Hudson RR was built to allow transportation to both upstate NY and to the rest of Manhattan. In 1895, the Broadway Br was built to allow for vehicular access (and later on subway access) to The Bronx as Spuyten Duyvil Creek was being remade, though it was replaced in 1905 with a newer one. In the early 1900's, industrialization was placed by Sherman Creek making it rural no more. In 1908, the University Hts Br was built for more access to The Bronx. In 1921, Columbia University built Bakers Field for its football team. In 1936, the Henry Hudson, with a lower deck added two years later, as part of the Henry Hudson Pkwy (NY 9A). In 1938, the Cloisters were built on top of Ft Tryon with collections of medievil artifacts. In 1960, the Broadway Br was rennovated to allow having both subway/vehicular access to The Bronx in how it looks today. Many tend to view Inwood as if it's not part of Manhattan. Then again, like other upper Manhattan hoods, it shares the same characteristics of the outer boroughs, especially since Inwood does have some autocentric places. Although, this may seem like the last hood in the Manhattan series, there is actually one more after this, which is Marble Hill, but I will save that for the next one. Walking up to the Cloisters on Ft Tryon can make you feel as if you weren't even in Manhattan with its natural scenes. Inwood Hill Pk is different than most Manhattan parks, b/c it didn't involve taking away land or reclaiming it for it being a forest from the start, hence what is left of primordial Manhattan. You can get here by taking the subway to 190th-Overlook Terr (A), 191st St (1), Dyckman St-200th St (A), Dyckman St-St Nicholas Ave (1), 207th St-Inwood (A), 207th St-10th Ave (1), and 215th St (1). Here is what you will find in Inwood. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
