Heading east brings us into the hood known as Navy Yd. It goes from the BQE (I-278) to the East River between Navy St and Kent Ave. This hood is mostly industrial. Originally, it was first settled by the Sands Brothers durring the mid 1700's. In 1801, federal authorities purchased the land from them to turn it into a US Navy Shipyard. In 1806, warehouses and other naval offices were built to go with it. In the 1860's, the Monitor, which was used in the Battle of Mobile Bay durring the US Civil War, was built here. In 1890, the Maine, which was used in the Spanish-American War and blew up for unknown reasons, was built here as well. The highest employement that came was durring WWII, when workers were needed around the clock to make battleships needed for the for the war. In 1966, the US Navy decommissioned the Navy Yds giving it over to the city for what they needed it for, which was mostly for industry. However, there were numerous disputes on what to build there for other purposes, though some stuidos did get built there. You can get here by taking the B57, B61, and B69 buses. Here is what you will find in Navy Yd.
