Heading north bring us into the hood known as North Side. It goes from Metropolitan Ave to N 12th St, with Bayard St and Richardson Ave, between Humbolt St and the East River. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was part of Dutch West India Co who bought the land in 1638 from Native Americans. In 1661, it was made as part of the town of Boswijck, though it was anglicized to Bushwick when the English took it over a few years later. For much of the colonial era it was part of Bushwick Shore that was mainly shrubland. In the early 1800's, the shore was drained and was built over for mostly farming and housing and took the name Williamsburgh after Colonel Jonathan Williams. In 1827, it became part its own village, its own town in 1840, and later its own city in 1852. As it was being divided into wards, the 2nd Ward became known as the North Side. The early 1900's brought a wave of immigrants originally Jewish and Italian, and later on with Hispanics durring the postwar era. Unfortunately, a lot of new construction and gentrification has lead to issues with longtime residents in the fear of being priced out. You can get here by taking the subway to Bedford Ave-N 7th St (L), Metropolitan Ave-Grand St (G), Lorimer St-Metropolitan Ave (L), and Grahm Ave (L). Here is what you will find in North Side.
