| Heading east brings us into the hood known as Broadway Junction. It goes from Broadway to the Queens line between Cooper Ave and the Jackie Robinson (Interboro) Pkwy, with Atlantic Ave. This hood is mostly residential and industrial. Originally, it was known in colonial times as Jamaica Pass when it was used as a route that British Army used to get to get from southern Brooklyn to the Gowanus durring Battle of LI, which was part of the American Revolution. In the mid 1800's, this area became a crossroads for trains in Brooklyn, mainly the LIRR, that it took the name Broadway Junction. In 1885, the Manhattan Beach line joined this hub. In 1889, the Fulton St El was built to allow for those from downtown Brooklyn to join with the LIRR. Numerous industries had placed their factories here so they could take advantage of the transportation that they could use for freight and getting their workers there easily. The 1900's, had brought residential property to Broadway Junction, though some of the els were demolished for the subway durring the 1960's. Although Broadway Junction has its own distinction, it is oftenly associtated with either Bushwick, East NY, or even Highland Pk. You can get here by taking the subway to Wilson Ave (L), Bushwick Ave-Aberdeen St (L), Broadway Junction (A, C, J, L, Z), Atlantic Ave-East NY Ave (L), and Chauncey St (J, Z) as well as taking the Altantic Ave Line of the LIRR to the East NY Station. Here is what you will find in Broadway Junction. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [img]http://www.findagrave.com/photos/2005/279/7433826_112872567215.jpg[img] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Great photos! If you hadn't posted the name of the city, would think it was any/many cities in the U.S. Illustrates how vastly different hubs are from the suburbs.... __________________________________________________ _ "Clearly, then, the city is not a concrete jungle, it is a human zoo." ~Desmond Morris, The Human Zoo I | |||||||||||

| I think even if I didn't say that Broadway Junct was part of NYC, many would still know that it is just by the shots of the subway cars. Of course there will be later neighborhoods that can really look like they are somewhere else especially if they are further out otherwise known as being on the edge. The reason why some outer borough neighborhoods may act like they were never part of NYC let alone their own borough was b/c they weren't absorbed into NYC until 1898, though The Bronx was there since 1874 and 1895. Another reason why they could pass for a seperate town is b/c they were once towns of their own, though this is the case for other major cities like Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, etc before being what they are now. Overall, the purpose of these tours is to give an overview of those places and even show the non-touristy places, so if you are looking for the main parts of NYC, I wouldn't suggest looking at this thread. On a sidenote, the name Broadway Junct can also be the name of a remote town.
