| Heading west brings us into the hood known as Park Slope. It goes from 15th St to Flatbush Ave between 4th Ave and West Dr. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was home to the Canarsie Indians until the Dutch settled here and had their farm's around the 1600's. In 1699, Klaes Arents Vecht built the family house known as the Old Stone House today. In 1776, the area served as a battle ground durring the Battle of LI, which took place durring the American Revolution including when the Old Stone House was used as a place of retreat by the Continental Army. In 1814, it became linked with the rest of South Brooklyn made it a thriving business center for NYC. In the 1850's, Edwin Clarke Litchfield, whose house is located in what's now Prospect Pk, bought tracts of the farms and sold them for residential developement. In 1868, the city of Brooklyn bought his house and made it part of Prospect Pk. In the 1870's and 1880's, Park Slope became a streetcar suburb as many rich NYers came to live here and brought the constructions of rows including Victorian mansions. In 1879, the Brooklyn Atlantics (later on known as the Dodgers) played their games at Washington Pk until it was burnned down in a fire in 1889 causing them to move to Ridgewood. In 1888, the 5th Ave El was built to allow for transportation to downtown Brooklyn as well as to Bay Ridge. In 1897, the Old Stone House was demolished, but was fortunatley reubilt in 1930 after Brooklyn Borough President John J Bryne rediscovered its foundations. In 1940, the 5th Ave was stopped, though it wasn't demolished until the 1960's. The 1950's, caused many living there to move the suburbs as part of the white flight, thought feminists and other working class residents worked to revitalize it by having newer rows being built. In 1960, UA Flight 826 landed at 7th Ave by Sterling Pl after colliding with another airplane over SI. More recently, Park Slope did see part of it getting landmarked for having such prestigous architecture. Park Slope is noted as Brooklyn's most prestegious neighborhood for having prime real estate. You can get here by taking the subway to Bergen St (2, 3), Grand Army Plaza (2, 3), Pacific St (D, M, N, R), Union St (M, R), 4th Ave (F), 9th St (M, R), 7th Ave-Park Slope(F), and 15th St-Prospect Pk (F). Here is what you will find in Park Slope. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
