Default NYC:Brooklyn hoods-Boerum Hill

Heading northwest brings us into the hood known as Boerum Hill. It goes from Butler St to Atlantic Ave between Court St and 4th Ave. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was settled by Simon Boerum, who had been the farmer of the area durring colonial times. In 1836, the Brooklyn & Jamaica RR was built by allowing for transportation to Queens as well as connecting to ferry service to Manhattan until it was stopped nearly 50 years later making Flatbush Ave the new terminal. Developement came in 1840's as for being prime real estate in that it was close to the train. Like any other neighborhood in its area, it too had problems durring the Great Depression and the early postwar era. In the 1960's, residents gave it the name Boerum Hill in honor the Boerum family. Although the part around Atlantic Ave has gon through gentrification, the rest is still for other groups. Smith St featuers a block of restuarants along it. You can get here by taking the subway to Pacific St (D, M, N, R) and Bergen St-Smith St (F, G) as well as taking the Atlantic Ave Line of the LIRR to the Flatbush Ave Station. Here is what you will find in Boerum Hill.

interesting photos, but for those outside, the lack of commentary/narrative makes it difficult to follow.

I mostly look up the information about these places. Some may have everything, but others may have nothing. Of course there will be other places in NYC I will be showing in the near future that will really make others feel that it's not part of NYC even though it's in it. Just wait for some others comming up when I have the time for it. For the record, none of these are my pics, but as long as those who have them don't come here and say no, then there isn't any problems. Despite that, others like them b/c they show parts of the city most are not used to seeing. Believe me, many of these places are not mentioned in guidebooks or even shown in other NYC books.
