| Shanghai by far. Sorry, but I think this thread is inconsistent, the cities are very different and Shanghai is much advantage over Mumbai. Greetings | |||||||||||

| Of course shanghai! the china supremacy over Indian citys is very evident in that images. Mainly if we want to talk about a city like Shanghai, which has grown of surprising way in the last ten years ago. ![]()

| OK. First of all, I recognize that Shanghai is much better than Mumbai. But I don't think, however, that Mumbai isn't a city to compare with Shanghai, or that will be so in the future. In fact, Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh has recently announced that he wants to turn Mumbai into another Shanghai up to 2010. I think that Mumbai is growing fastly (although sometimes it doesn't seem so). So I don't think this thread is inconsistent, the comparison between the two cities evidently is, but this is an interesting issue to talk about, Indian authorities are decided to make Mumbai reach Shanghai's levels (as India wants to challenge Chinese supremacy over Asia). Therefore, it's not a bad idea talking about what Mumbai would need to become another Shanghai, or even to beat up this city. And also, you are forgotting that Mumbai can challenge Shanghai culturally: it's home to the world's largest film industry, Bollywood, it receives daily a thousand immigrants from other parts of India, so it's a really diverse and cosmopolitan city, culturally, linguistically and religiously. In contrast, Shanghai doesn't produce very much films (as far as I know, Chinese film industry is centered in Hong Kong, whose habitants doesn't even consider themselves as part of the PRC), and is dominated by Han Chinese, but that has more to do with Chinese policies on ethnic minorities. And Mumbai's colonial buildings are astonishing: ![]() The Chhatrapati Sivaji Terminus (CST Mumbai) ![]() The Victoria Station ![]() ![]() ![]() Nigth view of the Gateway of India And let's not underestimate Indian cities, check out these recently built-up zones and its projects: Noida, Uttar Pradesh (satellite city of Delhi) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gurgaon, Haryana (satellite of Delhi too), the Millenium City (these are real pics not like Noida ones, except the last one) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll show you more pics in further posts. For now, I think it's enough (sorry for the long post!!!) Greetings from Tarija, Bolivia | |||||||||||
