| Everywhere you go in Greece, you find small churches. If you hike to the top of a hill, you often will find a small church. If you hike to the tip of a headland projecting out into the sea, you often will find a small church. The small church that appears in my avatar was once connected to an orphanage. It is named Agios Andreas and is located near Marathon. It was being renovated at the time that the following pictures were taken. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My wife's father was born to a Greek family living just across the border in Kakavia, Albania. His mother was able to keep an eye on the border posts from their house and sent her two oldest sons across the border when the guards weren't watching. They spent most of their youth in the orphanage. About ten years after the two boys escaped from Albania, the rest of the family escaped and they were reunited in Greece. They were not eligible for Greek citizenship, so they emigrated to the United States. | |||||||||||
