| I was lucky enough to spend a day in Tinos back in 2003. It is amazing. The story behind the church is that on the very site of where it is, an Icon was found buried in the ground. No one knows how it got there and it must not have been a creation of man. So they erected the church there and now people give there pieces of gold to the church. I remember when we went, my father didnt know what to give and as he was standing there wondering what to give to the church, his 'Stavro' chain broke and it fell into his hands. So ofcourse, he gave the cross to the church. People also crawl up the stairs however I am not sure of the relevance. I think it is to do with sin. Good presentation.
