WASHINGTON – Are secret meetings being held between the corporate and political elites of the U.S., Mexico and Canada to push North America into a European Union-style merger?

Is President Bush's reluctance to control the border and enforce laws requiring deportation of foreigners who enter the country illegally part of a master plan to all but eliminate borders between the U.S., Canada and Mexico?

Does the agenda of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America include a common currency that would scrap the dollar in favor of what some are calling the "amero"?

It may be the biggest story of the 21st century, but few press outlets are telling it. In fact, until very recently, few in the U.S. were aware of the plans and even fewer denouncing what appears to be the implementation of an effort some have characterized as "NAFTA on steroids."

The NAFTA Super Highway.

For more than 13 years NASCO and its members have stood at the forefront of driving public and private sectors to unite to address strategically critical national and international trade, transportation, security and environmental issues.

THE CHALLENGE

Economists predict U.S. bound international containerized cargo will increase 350% by 2020. United States, Mexico, and Canadian exports to one another and the world are at an all time high.

We are literally facing a trade tsunami and U.S., Mexico, and Canadian infrastructure is unable to handle the burden.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Pessimists view this as an impending crisis. NASCO views these challenges as a valuable opportunity for economic development, job creation, and to improve the overall trade competitiveness of the United States, Mexico and Canada in the global marketplace.

THE SOLUTION

NASCO’s purpose is to boost economic development activity by supporting:

Multi-modal (rail, truck, ships, air cargo) infrastructure improvements
Technology and security innovations on existing infrastructure to improve security and efficiency
Enhanced visibility, security, and accountability of supply chains critical to every day life
Environmental projects to preserve quality of life and allow for future growth
Strengthened security in cross-border trade flows
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

The critically important role transportation and trade play in our every day lives and in our nations’ economies is dramatically undervalued and underappreciated. Critics are attempting to exploit this misunderstanding to disrupt federal, state, and local projects aimed at propelling our communities and countries forward. These critics attempt to falsely portray NASCO as anything other than what it is: an effective and necessary advocate for efficient, secure and environmentally conscious trade and transportation.

We have updated our website to clearly articulate the purpose and objectives that have defined, and always will define, our organization.

Railway Age
Since the late 1990s, "The NAFTA Railway" has been the unofficial name Kansas City Southern gave to its north-south alignment of railroads linking the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

KCS announced late last month that KCS Railway, the Texas Mexican Railway, and Mexico's TFM Railway will officially come together under the common ownership and control of NAFTA Rail, a new holding company based in Kansas City, Mo. The KCSR/Tex-Mex transaction will require the approval of the Surface Transportation Board. Mexican regulatory authorities must approve NAFTA Rail's acquisition of TFM. When the legal paperwork is completed, KCS will trade on the New York Stock Exchange as NAFTA Rail.

Under the TEM acquisition agreement, TMM Intermodal, a subsidiary of Grupo TMM, will receive 22% of NAFTA Rail shares plus $200 million in cash, and a potential incentive payment of $100 million to $180 million. Michael R. Haverty; KCS's chairman, president, and CEO, will carry these titles to NAFTA Rail.

Scanning the News about North American Integration.

Whereas, according to the Department of Commerce, United States trade deficits with Mexico and Canada have significantly widened since the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA);

Whereas the economic and physical security of the United States is impaired by the potential loss of control of its borders attendant to the full operation of NAFTA;

Whereas a NAFTA Superhighway System from the west coast of Mexico through the United States and into Canada has been suggested as part of a North American Union;

Whereas it would be particularly difficult for Americans to collect insurance from Mexican companies which employ Mexican drivers involved in accidents in the United States, which would increase the insurance rates for American drivers;

Whereas future unrestricted foreign trucking into the United States can pose a safety hazard due to inadequate maintenance and inspection, and can act collaterally as a conduit for the entry into the United States of illegal drugs, illegal human smuggling, and terrorist activities; and

Whereas a NAFTA Superhighway System would be funded by foreign consortiums and controlled by foreign management, which threatens the sovereignty of the United States: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That —

1. the United States should not engage in the construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Superhighway System;

2. the United States should not enter into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada; and

3. the President should indicate strong opposition to these or any other proposals that threaten the sovereignty of the United States.
