It may cost more now, but in the long run it will be cheaper.
You gonna pay for all this excess road space yourself eh?

No. Im not but it's better to tell them now then later to move out. Becuase if you go around saying the express way will be four lanes and environmental with new flash bridges and underpasses etc. Then in 10-20 years time having to say get out the city is booming we need to extend it to eight lanes.Plus they government does buy the land of them and with a booming population and city I think you could buy something better!

I often wonder about this. The cost of these projects is incredible, and obviously totally prohibitive as far as 8 lanes etc etc go (yes, in our dreams). What was the deal during the 70's/80's? Were construction costs genuinely that much lower, or was Bjelke-Peterson just a complete nutjob?

Maybe someone who was old enough to know what went on in society during the 80's could offer some insight.

I don't genuinely expect the tunnels to be enourmous, of course. Though I am intrigued as to the scope of things in bygone days. The Gateway Bridge was nothing short of incredible for 12,500 vehicles per day... And estimates at the time said there would only be 50,000 in 2007 - there is over 150,000 already!

Yes I know you don't just mean people moving out it's going to cost a lot of money and approvals etc.I can see where you are coming from but planning for the future is safe and healthy for the city traffice won't be a problem etc. Thye only problem is if the future doen't go your well and the population growth starts going backwards then forwards or if a natural disaster hits.

Anything could happen and purly it's the governments decision and basicly thats why there the government. So we can only leave it to them unless they want people to vote and majority rules.
