Woohoo! Riverfire is tomorrow night!! (best night in Brisbane) I will capture it off the TV this year and upload it to the tube, so don't worry about missing Channel 7's coverage... just watch it here.

An F-111 'dump and burn' at Riverfire lights up the city.

F-111 'dump and burn' to light up festival

Riverfire's famous 'dump and burn' spectacular is set to go off without a hitch tomorrow night despite it being the first time the F-111 pilot has attempted the manoeuvre over Brisbane City.

Stationed at Amberley Air Force Base Squadron Leader Martin Huet sys he is excited about conducting the much loved manoeuvre tomorrow night.

-------------------------------------

"It's certainly some thing that is reasonably sought after and all the guys would be keen to have a go... I'm luckily it's my turn this year," Mr Huet said.

The manoeuvre is only possible due to a lucky design attribute which places the emergency fuel dump nozzle close to the jet's afterburners. This allows the pilot to ignite the fuel as is streams out of the aircraft.

"Every large aircraft that needs to get its weight down in case you have to do an emergency landing has a facility to dump fuel, it just happens that our dump is between the two after burners so that when you dump and put the after burners in at once you ignite the fuel," Mr Huet said.

"It's an accident of design rather than something that's deliberately built in there for any reason."

Despite the aircraft being older than Mr Huet, he said that they were still fantastic to fly.

"It's a very nice jet to fly, the avionics are starting to get a bit long in the tooth especially from a pilot's perspective but as for the airframe it was well built and well designed ... it even has some capabilities that aren't build into aircraft today," he said.

The first dump and burn will be held at 7pm as a prelude to the Riverfire fireworks display with the F111 igniting its fuel over Southbank and the proceeding over the CBD.

At 7.30pm another 'dump and burn' will close the fireworks show.
