I take your point, but many of the original features of the theatre are either in the Showcase theatre or, according to my sources, in storage.
My preference is for a 2000-2500 seat foyer to be restored in the style of the original, and that's why the pictures are there.

I am astonished by people who are winging about this, obviously they have a backward mindset and don't care about the proper preservation/rejuvenation of historical architecture.

Media articles like these spin up all this criticism themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brisbane times paid Geoffrey Rush for an interview. Shame on them, they are no longer my home page.

Although I'm quite surprised that practically all Brisbane forumers/people I've meet like this project.

yeah. i think they should get over it brisbane is booming and they got to face it we need new buildings like this to give it a better healthier lifestyle fair enough keep some old buiuldings etc but not right in the city there is a perfict oppitunity for this tower the theater will be revamped and everything it's not like there not making another theartre there or shifiting it some place else.

Does Geoffrey Rush live in Brisbane? His comment "We must challenge and deny these most venal minds that Queensland too-regularly puts in charge of our city's character" is extremely offensive if he doesn't.

Geoffrey Rush complains about projects in Melbourne quite a bit, although he never actually has a clue about the specifics of the developments.

Mr Rush might be a magnificent Hollywood actor (and i have to agree with that, Shine and Pirates are just some of his best) but he need to read more carefully in-depth to the article. Yes they are destroying the cinemas but replacing it with an auditorium and few seminar rooms. If the people are really crying over the cinema may close down, how about let the developers know that we want 4 cinemas space inside the tower somewhere maybe on the 1st floor. There we go, problem solve.
