Haha! "Pro-development groups", thank you Brisbanetimes, thats good advertising. I just seriously liked the song and decided to use it in one on my videos!

Heck, why don't they report all those songs I used in my SEQ development videos. What a joke... thats the media I guess.

And can I just say this, what is it with the Brisbanetimes and anti-development articles? they are obsessed with saving this old cinema box!

I did not "steal somebody's song to support 'our cause" whatever that may be, I just simply used the images from the Brisbane city council DA online service and combined it with a random song that I liked. I see absolutely no harm in showing the FACTS of this development, something the media clearly is oblivious to, so from that regard I have no regrets, well only one which would be using this guys song. Sorry about that, should have thought about another song to use.

"We may be idealistic in thinking that the Regent will be saved from the demolition ball and restored to its full glory. However, we're not stupid enough to steal somebody's song to support our cause," Mr Debritz said.

And that is just rude. I really do feel insulted. I created it to show people what the project design looks like. Sure I want this to go ahead, but not once did I say in the video to "support this project" I was simply educating and showing the public aspects of the design which were already widely available. I don't know where stupidity comes in to this equation?

Can anyone tell me a song that is uploaded with approval on youtube? Isn't that like really hard to get? :|

Song use ''illegal'' ... New Shoes by Scotland's Paolo Nutini may have been wrongly used in the campaign to save the Regent Theatre.

Song in Regent Theatre campaign was used 'illegally'

SCOTTISH singer Paolo Nutini has been dragged into the controversy over the future of Brisbane's Regent Theatre after one his songs was "illegally" used in a campaign to re-develop the landmark building.

A video, which was posted on YouTube outlining and praising developers' plans to build a 34-floor office tower on the site, used one of Nutini's songs, New Shoes, as its soundtrack.

Mike Bawden, from Nutini's management company, Morse Code Management, was irate his client's music had been used without permission.

The clip was today (Wednesday, April 2) removed from the video-sharing website after a protest by Warner Music.

"We have never approved use of Paolo's track New Shoes. Paolo doesn't have anything to do with this ... and we're a lot p---ed off with it," Bawden said.

Nutini, who is about to embark on a huge summer tour of the US as the support act for the Dave Matthews Band, has a growing global fan-base and a big internet presence of his own.

Savetheregent.com webmaster Brett Debritz said using the song was a "dirty trick" to get Nutini's young fans to believe that he is endorsing the redevelopment of the theatre.

"It certainly tries to generate a 'cool' image for what is, essentially, an act of cultural vandalism," Debritz said.

"In fact, young people in their thousands have joined Facebook groups opposed to this project and visited Save the Regent to express their opposition this proposal."

Debritz said pro-development groups had used the Internet to characterise the Save the Regent campaigners as naive.
