STOCKLAND wants you to let it know how you feel about its multi-million dollar expansion plans for Townsville.

The shopping centre has been embroiled in controversy with retailers over its plans to introduce retail giant Myer to Townsville as part of its $100 million plus expansion.

Earlier in the month, Walters IGA claimed it had been forced out of its Stockland store to allow Myer to set up shop.

Stockland has bought the adjacent Sunvale and Kingsvale complexes, but a legal dispute involving Kingsvale tenant John Gribbin Realty is believed to be holding up the development.

The Myer expansion is expected to be open by 2009.

Stockland is on Monday and Tuesday conducting community information and feedback sessions in preparation for its development application.

Stockland Townsville's Danelle Parker said the company valued feedback as to what people wanted to see in the development of the shopping centre and to make sure it met people's needs.

"We've obviously hoping for some positive feedback," Ms Parker said.

"We're hoping people are appreciative that we value their feedback."

Stockland's development general manager Stewart White said the company understood the importance of keeping the community informed.

Mr White said it was offering an opportunity for customers to provide suggestions and ideas prior to a development application for the new centre being lodged.

"We will ensure that the new Stockland Townsville will support the community's desire for a local, sustainable retail offering, bringing with it considerable flow-on benefits for the Townsville community," he said.

"This will include significant investment and job creation."

The community consultation meetings will be held on Monday at the Aitkenvale PCYC from 12pm to 2pm, 3.30pm to 5.30pm and 6.30pm to 8.30pm; and on Tuesday from 7am to 9am, and 12pm to 2pm.

For more information or to attend a session, please contact Danelle Parker at Stockland Townsville on (07) 4779 6033 or email danelle.parker@stockland.com.au.
Finally hopefully construction can start
