How interesting! Thats the smallest Maccers I've ever seen!!

I know Brisbane Mcdonald's restaurants have "Maccers FM" just for the store but not for the entire city.

Big plans in store

Quote:
STOCKLAND Trust will next week lodge plans for a $130 million redevelopment of its Townsville centre but remains tightlipped on exact details.

The redevelopment will involve a 25,700s qm expansion to house retail giant Myer, set to open in 2009, as well as a new Woolworths, an entertainment precinct including cinemas and restaurants, and more than 75 additional speciality stores.

It will incorporate the existing Stockland Townsville site, the previous Commonwealth Bank site, the former service station site and part of the Kingsvale and Sunvale retail precincts, bringing the centre's gross net lettable area to approximately 60,000s qm.

Pending approval of the development application by Townsville City Council, construction is expected to start in late 2008.

The Townsville Bulletin attempted to obtain artists' impressions and preliminary plans of the redevelopment but Stockland's public relations department in Sydney refused to co-operate.

When asked where Myer would move if the re-development was not completed on time, they responded `That question is not relevant'.

A request to speak with the general manager of development, design and construction, Stewart White, was also denied.

The only comment provided was the following, in the form of a press release.

"The new Stockland Townsville will support the community's desire for a local, sustainable and exciting retail offering, bringing with it considerable flow-on benefits for the community, including significant investment and job creation," Mr White said.

"It is estimated the expanded centre will create an additional 660 long-term jobs, around 880 jobs during construction, as well as a further 1400 jobs in the broader community."

The shopping centre has been embroiled in controversy with retailers since it was announced in July that Myer would open its doors in 2009 as part of a multi million-dollar redevelopment of the centre.

Stockland executives from Melbourne and Sydney revealed plans to build a two-level store for Myer of about 10,000sq m, with the first level in areas occupied by Rebel and Crazy Clark's outlets, and another level to be built above that.

But Rebel Sport Group national property administration manager Daleen Bruce said the sports store was going nowhere as it had a lease until 2012.

It was then understood the centre would expand across Elizabeth St and into parts of the Sunvale and Kingsvale centres it acquired in August.

But a legal dispute involving Kingsvale tenant John Gribbin Realty is understood to have held up the development.

In November, Walters IGA was then forced out of its store to make way for Myer.

IGA operations manager Adam Westbury said Stockland had refused to renew the lease so it could make way for the new store.

Once stockies has been upgraded with the extra 75 additional stores, then Stockland Townsville is going to become North Queensland's largest shopping centre by number of tenants. Has 130 or 40 currently, and Cairns Central has 180, So all togehter around 210-220 but flinders plaza will have have 220 once constructed again making these two stores the biggest in Regional australia and making it stocklands biggest shopping complex in aus!
