| www.reddogarchitects.com.au thanks to Red Nut on SSC for finding these. ![]() ![]() Stockland Rockhampton This project entails the redevelopment of the existing Stockland Shopping Centre in Rockhampton which consists of two separate buildings separated by Moores Creek. The project brief included demolition of the oldest part of the shopping precinct to allow for the construction of a new wing linking the southern site to the remaining centre via a retail bridge spanning across Moores Creek. Originally the centre was proposed to be at grade with external carparking. A change in direction by Stockland Developments has now resulted in a two level shopping centre with the main carparking located under the retail. The centre is seen as an integral part to the shopping lifestyle of the people of Rockhampton. The ‘single barrell’ mall is activated by two large courts – The Bridge Court and The Majors Court. The Bridge Court takes advantage of views over Moores Creek and beyond. The large glass façade protected from direct sun with metal screening provides visual relief for the shopper. As you move through the centre, natural daylight is provided by long skylights which punctuate the ceiling. The Majors Court opens to the ground level carpark and is the entry to the two major tenants, Kmart and Coles.

| From The Morning Bulletin We're not your babysitters! July 01, 2008 THE most popular meeting spot for teenagers in Rockhampton is suddenly off limits to most of them. Stockland Rockhampton is cracking down on unruly youths and has warned children under 15 must now be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. The notice Stockland handed out to teenagers on Thursday also informed them that groups of four or more people were not allowed to congregate or loiter at the centre. The move has come under fire from one Rockhampton father, who says his daughter and her friends are the victims of the actions of a small minority of out-of-control teens. The concerned dad said his daughter, who had just turned 15, was handed a Condition of Entry leaflet on Thursday night and told by a Stockland representative the centre was no longer their "babysitter". The father said his daughter had been told the entry conditions would be strictly enforced during the school holidays. "I can understand them wanting to step in because the problem is getting so bad," said the North Rockhampton man, who has not been identified for family reasons. "I would say while 10% of the kids are causing the problems, the other 90% now have to suffer the consequences." His daughter said she enjoyed going to the shops with her friends, but there were problems. "There would be three or four fights every Thursday night," she said. She said on Thursday a security guard informed her small group that those under 15 had to have an adult or legal guardian with them. Those aged 16 and 17 had to show ID when asked. The policy was news to Rockhampton friends Alice Bell, 16, and Thomas Woodfield, 14, yesterday as they made their way into the centre. Thomas said he thought the ruling was unfair. He said those who hadn't done anything wrong shouldn't be punished. Alice said she wasn't allowed to go to the centre on a Thursday night. However, she said on holidays and other days she enjoyed going to the shops and the nearby cinema. A spokeswoman for Stockland Rockhampton yesterday said the safety and security of all customers, employees and retailers was of paramount importance. "In light of this, Stockland Rockhampton is currently trialling new Conditions of Entry in response to requests from the community for a safer and more enjoyable shopping experience at the centre," she said. "Stockland Rockhampton will continue to work with retailers, customers and the broader community to ensure that the centre remains a convenient and safe shopping destination for the residents of Rockhampton," the spokeswoman said.
