| Caloundra is starting to develop with the completion of a Woolworths anchored shopping centre nearing completion. A large motel unit which is about 4-6 stories has begun. Coolum also looks set to have some exciting new development particularly along the esplanade with a new shopping area due to start and a large resort starting to take shape. Also there is a new Coolum marketplace which should be close to starting soon. Coolum has been referred to as the new Noosa. Things on the coast should really start to happen in about 1-2 years with the extension of the plaza, kawana shoppingworld extension, kawana town centre, sippy downs town centre, a new marketplace in Buderim worth at least $25 million, Peregian Springs Shopping Centre and a new development nearing completion at Peregian Beach called the "Boardwalk". Whether they can get there act together over Mooloolaba remains to be seen as there is some extremely exciting potential there. | |||||||||||

| Speaking of Mooloolaba, has anyone heard any news on when MSC/Main Roads are going to start on the widening of Brisbane Road to four lanes? I saw/read it a while back now that they had put some different options up for public consultation. | |||||||||||

| I have heard something about Brisbane Road being widened within the next 18 months but don't quote me on that. I wouldn't be surprised if the merger between the three councils will only be Maroochydore and Caloundra which will take the population to about 240 000. Noosa is definetly against the merger and don't share the same idealogy regarding growth. I have noticed that there seems to be more information made available about projects in Maroochydore. There is a model of the Sunshine Plaza expansion on the upper floor close to Colorado which is very informative. The council have a blueprint on the Sippy Downs Town Centre which is quite detailed. There has been a community update on the wises road development. WWW.SUNSHINECOVE.COM.AU. At the moment Caloundra is experiencing the most amount of development and it looks as though the area will change dramatically in the next 2-3 years. It will be interesting to see whether the CAMCOS projects gets fast tracked with the new council merger. Stockland may have something to do with this if they get the greenlight for the Caloundra Downs projects which could possibly be brought forward. | |||||||||||

| Thanks for the link on the Mooloolaba spit, hopefully something will get started there in the next two years or thereabouts. The issue of Noosa going its separate way seems very likely. I believe the rest of the coast will develop its own cafe, restaurant strip which will rival or surpass Hastings Street. At the moment we don't really have that but this looks likely to emerge in places like Kawana Beach which should be finished somewhere around 2009, the esplanade at Bulcock Beach is also being redeveloped with the new Ramba resort being the centrepiece. An area which would be a great restaurant, cafe strip would be making bradman avenue near chambers island an area similar to gympie terrace in Nooaville. | |||||||||||
