New Pedestrian Bridge

1. General Features of the Bridge
The new massive transportation "Transmetro" being constructed increased the width of the important Avenue "Murillo" which crosses the city of Barranquilla from south to north.
Due due to the increased traffic expected and the vecinity of the Football Stadium "Metropolitano" and the newly built shopping Center "Metropolitano", the pedestrian bridge was built to allowed pedestrians to cross safely across the new reformed avenue.

2. Spans and clearance under the Bridge
The bridge consists of a two 17.70m main span (58 ft)and two shorter spans each 7.50m (24.6ft) for a total bridge length 50.40 meters span over the avenue. The vertical clearance is 4.50m (14.5ft).

3. Section of the Bridge
The bridge has a width of 2.40m (8.0ft). The cross section is a T-Beam with a 1.00m depth and variable beam width 0.50m to 0.80m for a pleasing aesthetic shape. The four precast concrete beams are simply supported at each bent which were lifted to place in a one day operation avoiding traffic interruption. The bridge deck is precast together with the beam for a composite behavior for better resistance and stiffness.

4. Access Ramps
The access ramps are 2.00m wide and were poured in site. The ramp slope is 12%.

5. Specifications and advantages of building a precast reinforced concrete pedestrian bridge.
a. Vertical clearance of 4.50 m.
b. Pedestrian sidewalk 2.40 m.
c. Connects the main Football Stadium with the newly built Shopping Center.
d. Reinforced concrete is ideal for the harsh weather in the coast.
e. Precast construction is the ideal system to avoid traffic interruption.
