OPINION is split over Brisbane's proposed North Bank development, Deputy Premier Anna Bligh says.

The North Bank development is expected to include open space, seven high-rise buildings, a hotel, a footbridge to the popular South Bank and an underground carpark.
Stage one of the project takes in the riverfront land from the Victoria Bridge to Alice Street, with developer Multiplex the government's preferred tenderer.

The public feedback period for the project ends today.

Ms Bligh told state parliament today more than 4000 people had so far had their say on the proposal.

"As at close of business today, Wednesday, we will have the final numbers and a report will be developed for the government to further consider," she said.

"It is, however, clear from feedback to date that opinion is evenly divided."

Ms Bligh said of 3004 respondents to an ABC feedback website, 47 per cent liked the proposal while 38 per cent wanted it scrapped.

Of 381 respondents to The Courier-Mail's website, about 25 per cent supported it compared with 48 per cent who were opposed.

And a quarter of the 887 people who responded directly to the government were in favour, while 44 per cent were against.

"These numbers have offered us an ideal opportunity to hear what the community has to say," Ms Bligh said.

Despite divided opinion on the type of development being proposed, Ms Bligh said that responses showed overwhelmingly that people wanted North Bank improved.

"It is clear that respondents don't like what is there now."

Ms Bligh said the public would be kept informed as the government made its decision.
