Manhattan's the first skyscraper city I ever saw. Not in person, but in LIFE magazine. Although my place of birth is a prominent skyscraper city today, the "skyline" was as flat as a pancake back then. As a boy I was awestruck and fascinated by NYC's skyline in general, and the Empire State bldg. in particular, thanks to the B/W images in LIFE magazine.

Thanks to a stroke of good luck and timing, I was able to see Manhattan in person before 9/11. I was there in midsummer that year and had the pleasure of looking down on the rest of the island from it's highest peaks (WTC and ES bldgs). To realize that I was literally on the roof of one of the twin towers a mere two months before the terrorists' strike, to this day, still give me pause... But I digress...

Did I mention that my rating is 10/10?
