|  Istanbul CITY, Istanbul PROVINCE Many friends make always the same mistake and we teach our guests wrong. In Turkey there are administrative provinces and a governor rules there. It's somehow like "state" in USA or "ille" in France. In Turkey most of the provinces have the name of the biggest city in the province. Except Mersin-İçel, İzmit-Kocaeli, Adapazarı-Sakarya, İskenderun-Hayat, all provinces have the name of a major city in the region. Istanbul is one of them. Istanbul city is another concept, Istanbul province is another concept (like New York City and New York State). When we give informations please be sensitive about this and when you are presenting a construction out of the city please don't say "Istanbul". Same goes for Muğla and Antalya provinces.
